# Accessibility Checklist
To comply with [Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)](https://www.ada.gov/law-and-regs/regulations/title-ii-2010-regulations/), **UWM Post** content must adhere to the guidelines in [Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) Version 2.1 Level AA](https://www.ada.gov/resources/2024-03-08-web-rule/).
While the items listed below are not an exhaustive list of all ADA Title II WCAG 2.1 Level AA guidelines, these are the guidelines **UWM Post Contributors** and **Editors** will most likely encounter when creating and publishing posts.
#### Audio
When [adding an audio file to a post](/wordpress-adding-content-to-uwm-post/working-with-text-and-links/adding-an-mp3.md), a transcript of the audio file must be included in the post. If you haven't already done so, [create a transcript of the audio file](https://techresources.gitbook.io/microsoft-word-tips-and-tricks/using-word-online-to-transcribe-an-audio-file). Then use the **Transcript** block to [add a transcript to the post](/wordpress-adding-content-to-uwm-post/accessibility/adding-a-transcript-to-a-post.md).
#### Bulleted List/Unordered List
When [adding a bulleted list to a post](/wordpress-adding-content-to-uwm-post/working-with-text-and-links/adding-a-bulleted-list.md), you must use the **Unordered List** block. Do not manually create a bulleted list using the asterisk key (or any other similar approach).
#### Headings/Subheadings
When [adding headings/subheadings to a post](/wordpress-adding-content-to-uwm-post/working-with-text-and-links/adding-a-heading.md), use the **Heading** block. This will create an **H2** heading within the post. In general, an **H2** heading is the only type of heading a **UWM Post Contributor** should add to a post. **Note**: Do not make the heading bold (it is already bold).
#### Images
When [adding an image to a post](/wordpress-adding-content-to-uwm-post/working-with-text-and-links/adding-an-image.md), the image needs to include [alternative (alt) text](/wordpress-adding-content-to-uwm-post/working-with-text-and-links/adding-alt-text-to-an-image.md). Alt text describes what is happening in the image. When a website visitor uses a screen reader, the alt text of each image is read aloud by the screen reader. Alt text should be concise (around 150 characters) and should not contain unnecessary phrases such as "image of." **Note**: A caption is not alt text.
#### Links
When [adding a link to a post](/wordpress-adding-content-to-uwm-post/working-with-text-and-links/creating-a-link.md), the link text should describe the purpose of the link. Do not use phrases such as "click here" or "this link" when creating link text. See examples below.
* Instead of "check out this link" use "check out the JAMS Facebook account."
* Instead of "for more information, click here" use "for more information, visit the JAMS Tech Resources for Students website."
#### Numbered List/Ordered List
When [adding a numbered list to a post](/wordpress-adding-content-to-uwm-post/working-with-text-and-links/adding-a-numbered-list.md), you must use the **Ordered List** block. Do not attempt to manually create a numbered list by typing numbers into a post.
#### Video
When [adding a video to a post](/wordpress-adding-content-to-uwm-post/working-with-text-and-links/adding-a-video-to-a-post.md), the video must include captions. By default, YouTube automatically creates captions for videos uploaded to its platform. However, it is incumbent upon **UWM Post Editors** to ensure that YouTube captions are functioning correctly for any video added to a post.
