# Character Formatting Controls

| Control              | How it works                                                                                                                                                                                              |
| -------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Font List            | Select the text you'd like to change. Choose a new font family in the Font List drop-down menu.                                                                                                           |
| Font Style           | Select the text you'd like to change. Choose a new font stlye in the Font Styl drop-down menu.                                                                                                            |
| Font Size            | Select the text you'd like to change. Choose a new font size in the Font Size drop-down menu or manually enter a size.                                                                                    |
| Leading              | Select the text you'd like to change. Using the Leading drop-down menu, increase/ decrease buttons, or by manually entering a value, you can adjust the ammount of space above a line (or lines) of text. |
| All Caps             | Select the text you'd like to change. Click the All Caps button to capitalize all of the selected text.                                                                                                   |
| Small Caps           | Select the text you'd to change. Click the Small Caps button to set the selected text to small caps (capitalized text that is the height of lowercase letters.)                                           |
| Superscript          | Select the text you'd like to change. Click the Superscript button to shrink and raise the selected text.                                                                                                 |
| Subscript            | Select the text you'd like to change. Click the Subscript button to shrink and lower the selected text.                                                                                                   |
| Underline            | Select the text you'd like to change. Click the Underline button to add an underline to selected text.                                                                                                    |
| Strikethrough        | Click the Strikethrough button to add a line through the horizontal center of selected text.                                                                                                              |
| Kerning              | Place cursor between two characters you'd like to change. Use the drop-down menu or manually enter a value to increase or decrease the space between the characters.                                      |
| Tracking             | Select the text you'd like to change. Use the drop-down menu or manually enter a value to increase or decrease the space between letters in selected text.                                                |
| Vertical Scale       | Use the drop-down list or manually enter a value to vertically stretch selected text.                                                                                                                     |
| Baseline Shift       | Use the drop-down menu or manually enter a value to vertically shift the bottom position of selected text.                                                                                                |
| Horizontal Scale     | Use the drop-down list or manually enter a value to vertically stretch selected text.                                                                                                                     |
| Skew                 | Use the increase/ decrease buttons or manually enter a value to stretch selected text along a diagonal plane.                                                                                             |
| Fill Color           | Use the drop-down menu to change the font color of selected text. A custom color can also be created and applied to selected text.                                                                        |
| Stroke Color         | Use the drop-down menu to change the font color of selected text. A custom color can also be created and applied to selected text.                                                                        |
| Character Style      | Click the Character Style button to create a new style based on the selected text or to apply a saved style                                                                                               |
| Justification Styles | Click justification buttons to align selected text to left, right, or center of text box.                                                                                                                 |
