# Formatting Text

1. Click the [Type tool](https://jjloomis.gitbook.io/adobe-indesign-basics-mac-os-edition/working-with-tools/drawing-and-type-tools) in the Toolbar.
2. Select the text you want to change.
3. Use the [Character formatting controls](https://jjloomis.gitbook.io/adobe-indesign-basics-mac-os-edition/working-with-text/character-formatting-controls) or [Paragraph formatting controls](https://jjloomis.gitbook.io/adobe-indesign-basics-mac-os-edition/working-with-text/paragraph-formatting-controls) to changes the formatting of your text.
